I’ve always dreamt of having stairs in our house. You know the ones that get decorated with garland and lights at Christmas or are the backdrop to every family photo.

Well the stairs in our house were not that kind of stairs. Stuck in the late 70’s with carpet and they definitely weren’t to code with the little nib wall being too low.

But I had a vision. These stunning stair rails by Kate Walker:

Although I didn’t have as much to fill as Kate’s lovely stairs, I needed something that was designed the same, bought the wall up to code and allowed people to hold on to a rail. There was also the wall going down to the lady den that needed the wood handle to be replaced.

I contacted several places in Tamworth and never had a response. How on earth was I going to get these made?!?

One day, I was down at the monthly local market with my friend Tash who was visiting. I probably wouldn’t have gone if she wasn’t here. We walked past a guy who had a stall with really creative metal work. I asked him if he does custom work like…oh I don’t know….stair rails. He said he might be able to so I showed him Kate Walker’s lovely stairs and we made a time for him to come and measure up.

Fast forward a couple of trips and weeks and he had knocked it out of the park:

I am so stoked with the result. Now I just need to paint the wall, replace the flooring…it never ends!

Have fun!
